This is it. The time has finally come for you to have your dermal filler consultation. You’ve been eagerly waiting for this day since you took the plunge and booked the appointment, but now it’s here, you’re not sure what to expect. Teoxane are here to help!
Your first consultation is an opportunity for you and your injector to get to know each other better and to discuss your potential treatment plan. Your practitioner will have to ask some questions about your medical and aesthetics history and examine your face to ensure you are suitable for your chosen treatment.
Dr. Tracy Mountford explains that at your consultation, “your practitioner will put you at ease, relax you, talk to you about what you expect from your treatment, and you can have a discussion about your desires and goals”1
The consultation is your opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Your practitioner is there to ensure you leave your consultation feeling confident that you have chosen the right injector and that you understand your treatment plan and expected results. The consultation provides an open space for you to ask all the questions that are on your mind, as well as questions that may help you understand who the treating practitioner is.
Some example questions to ask at your consultation include:
- Do you have any experience managing complications?
- What results can I expect?
- Do you use reputable dermal filler brands?
- What level of aftercare do you provide?
By asking these questions, you can ensure that your practitioner is a medical professional, experienced in injecting and managing complications, and can provide you with your desired results. Your practitioner may have a portfolio of results they can show you, so you can see a visual representation of the practitioner's past results. If these do not line up with your expectations, it is potentially an idea to revisit your research and find a practitioner that better aligns with your expected outcomes.
Your consultation is also an opportunity for your injector to discuss their aftercare protocol and any further treatments. In some cases, your treatment may require ‘top ups’ at certain time intervals after the initial appointment. Your practitioner will be able to explain the timeframe and rationale behind these further treatments. Your practitioner could also use the appointment to discuss some post-treatment skincare regimes with you.
If you do not know what to do next in the moment, that's okay - your practitioner will offer you time and space to reflect on your choice and make the decision that is right for you.
